Hit Counters and Statistics

I was wondering how to track visits to a blog, and found the following very helpful information in Google help:

Do you ever wonder how many people visit your blog, or where they come from? Well there are services you can install that can tell you all about the traffic on your site. They range from simple hit counters that just display a total number of visitors, to more advanced statistics services that can give you information about referrers, browsers, visiting times, and more.

There are a number of sites that offer free services to help you track visits to your blog. You can do a Google search to find them, or you can start by checking out some of these links:

Mac OS X Leopard FIX: can't click on icons on desktop

Ok.  This is really strange.  

I was fiddling around with gsync and its settings.  (btw, check out this amazing tool to synchronize your Google calendars with iCal.  It's great!)

I don't know if what I was doing with iSync and gsync had anything to do with the problem that suddenly came up, but here is what happened:  all of a sudden I could not interact with my Leopard desktop anymore.  I would click on icons, and nothing would happen.  I couldn't even double-click on my HD icon to open it.

I googled away but couldn't find any answers.  Finally, I decided to download TinkerTool, which allows you to set hidden system preferences.  Now here is the funny thing:  I downloaded TinkerTool, I double-clicked on the icon to run it, and suddenly my Leopard desktop was working fine again!  I didn't even have to fiddle with any hidden preferences.

Is that weird or what?

Summary of fix:  If you can't click on the icons on your Mac OS X Leopard desktop, try downloading and running TinkerTool.

Joomla! DOCman problems - Joomla! DOCman problemas

I just downloaded the DOCman 1.3 component and installed it no problems on my Joomla! 1.0.11 site. When I say "no problems", I mean that there were no problems to install.

But when I tried to upload my first document from the site frontend, DOCman gave an error: Error uploading. - Directory problem:

After playing around for a while, I found the following solution:

1. make sure you actually have the directory dmdocuments on the root level of your Joomla! installation on your server, and that its permissions are set properly;
2. go to the DOCman component, choose configuration and click on reset default for the "path for storing files" setting;
3. make sure you click on Save to save the DOCman configuration (I forgot to do this, and ended up banging my head against the wall in frustration until I figured out what I had missed!);
4. make sure that you have created at least one category and one group in the DOCman componont Management control panel.
